Forks Washington on the Olympic Peninsula

ONP Visitor Updates

Friday, 03 July 2009 Written by Erik & Cari

The Olympic National Park has made several announcements that may be of interest to visitors to the Olympic Peninsula this summer.
First of all, we like the sound of these Fee-Free Weekends at the park. Entrance fees (only) will be waived during the weekends of July 18-19 and August 15-16 this year. The fee is usually $15 per vehicle (or $5 per person on foot, bicycle, motorcycle, etc.). So, that’s one more reason to visit ONP this summer!

And what better time is there than the height of the tourism season for some re-paving action? ;-) The Upper Hoh Road (Hoh Rain Forest, Hall of Mosses, etc.) is scheduled for resurfacing beginning July 27th and continuing for about 2 weeks. Also, the scenic part of Highway 101 that winds around Lake Crescent is set for resurfacing for a couple of weeks in August. The work on the Lake Crescent stretch will happen on weekdays only (no weekend or holiday work). In both cases, the roads will remain open, but there may be some delays. Complete details can be found on the ONP website.
Finally, backcountry hikers should check out the current trail conditions in the park as part of their trip planning.
