Forks and LaPush Celebrate the New Moon Movie Release

Check out the Forks Forum's New Moon Magazine.

The focus is on Forks and LaPush celebrating the release of the big movie. Lots of local information and photos.

Nice job, Chris and crew!

the-twilight-saga-new-moo-002This article from the UK Mail attributes a 1000% increase in tourism here in Forks to Robert Pattinson.  Thanks Rob!! We hadn't really thought of it that way before. . . .   The article does a nice job of covering some of the local attractions,  mentioning Ruby Beach and the Hoh Rainforest.  Cheers to the Mail for the great article and for helping us spread the word about Forks.  If you really want to see the dark, rainy, authentic Forks, now is the perfect time to visit!

Wow!  We're speechless after checking out these brand-new MSN Twilight videos (you may have to install MS Silverlight to view the videos).  For the most part, they were shot by the MSN crew while they were here in Forks for Stephenie Meyer Day on Bella's Birthday.

The video featured above, Twilight: Land of Legends, presents an interesting perspective of Forks and LaPush.  Where the heck did they get some of that creepy footage?  Like those girls standing in that dark alley?  Or that huge pile of tires at Gilmore's?  Seriously, these are truly impressive and very well-done--you have to see them all!  Thanks MSN!

ABC's Nightline Interviewing Forks Chamber Director Marcia BinghamWe saw the Nightline crew on a Twilight tour bus a while back and their take on Forks just aired here on the ABC television network.  It's worth checking out--lots of clever puns and comments, generally summing up the situation as a "bloody success."  We hadn't previously heard of Dazzled by Twilight's Annette Bruno-Root referred to as "Queen of the Twihards" either.  Not sure if that's an official title or what . . .   Our favorite part was a reference to Forks as a "must-see" destination.  Even Rob Pattinson says he'd love to visit!  Thanks Nightline!
Forks is really on a roll! Now the London Times Online is writing about us. observations like "As the tiny two-lane highway rolled on, the blood-sucking puns increased" (referring to the roadside signs cropping up on the drive to Forks). We love getting visitors from the UK here in Forks and LaPush--thanks to the Times for the fun article!

Wow! You’d expect to find huge t-shirt factories lining the streets out here in the West End of Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, given the number of Forks and LaPush t-shirts available online. We’re not really sure who’s making these shirts, but we suspect most aren’t actually from around here.

We appreciate all of the attention–and the more the merrier–but there are locally produced Forks, LaPush and Twilight-related products available, including the Forks Chamber of Commerce’s own line of shirts and stickers. Your purchases help support community-minded Chamber activities, including operating this web site and our web cams, staffing our Visitor Information Center in Forks and funding scholarships for graduates of Forks High School and Quileute Tribal School.

But, just for fun, here’s a small sampling of some of the images available on t-shirts and other products out there:

This really is your “last chance” to get in on $4300 in prizes at the Last Chance Salmon Derby happening in LaPush beginning Saturday, September 27, 2008, at, of course, the crack of dawn. This event, co-sponsored by the Quileute Nation, the City of Forks and us, the Forks Chamber of Commerce, promises to be another great fishing opportunity and fun time for everyone.

It’s been out of commission for a while, but we’re pleased to announce that our First Beach webcam is back!! The webcam is co-sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce and the Quileute Nation. The cam is located in the administration building of the Quileute Tribal School in LaPush, approximately 15 miles west of Forks. It looks out (during daylight hours only) over First Beach in LaPush, which is accessible to all visitors. Keep an eye out for surfers when the big waves happen!

This year’s Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction is right around the corner–March 21st-22nd. For those unfamiliar with the auction, it’s really quite amazing–this tiny community pulls together every year to raise sufficient funds to provide a scholarship for every graduate of Forks High School or Quileute Tribal School who applies for one!! And this has been going on now for 45 years, with over a million dollars awarded in scholarships so far, beginning in 1964 with Forks favorite dentist (and Chamber board member/community leader), Dr. Bob Henry, receiving the very first award.

While whales in general have received quite a bit of media attention in the West End over the years, whale watching has pretty much been limited to a shoreside activity. That is until now. Our friends at the Quileute Oceanside Resort in LaPush (about 15 mile west of Forks, right on the Pacific Ocean, at the mouth of the Quillayute River) just announced they are partnering with Pacific Coast Charters to offer whale watching excursions starting April 1st and extending through May 15, 2009. With package pricing starting at $210 for 2 people, including overnight, oceanfront, accommodations and a “3 hour tour” aboard the Ali Lynn with Captain Anthony Demorest, we suspect there will be strong interest in this popular outdoor activity. For more information, contact the resort now at 1-800-487-1267.
