The Forks Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its annual scholarships for Forks High School or Quileute Tribal School graduates. This year, the Chamber is able to increase the amount of its award by a whopping 400%. This came about because of the Chamber Board of Directors’ community-minded decision to devote profits from the sale of Spartans gear sold at the Chamber’s Online Store and its Visitor Center Store to scholarships.
This year the Chamber will award two separate $1000 scholarships! Additional funds from the sale of Spartans products have been earmarked for future years. The application will be part of the regular procedure local seniors are familiar with. Successful applicants will show evidence of academic achievement, community involvement and an interest in business–particularly business activities based here in the West End.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the cause by buying Spartan t-shirts, hoodies and other products from the Forks Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is delighted to have funds available to assist local youth meet their goals!
Sea stacks, sunsets and seals are some of the many features of the latest addition to our little webcam family—our “James Island” webcam. The brand-new camera, again co-sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce and the Quileute Nation, shows the sea stacks and surf between James Island (A-Ka-Lat) and Little James Island. The scene, which extends westward across the mouth of the Quillayute River to the horizon, changes dramatically with tide and weather conditions.
This is just a taste of the kind of awesome scenery that visitors to the West End of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula enjoy!
It’s been out of commission for a while, but we’re pleased to announce that our First Beach webcam is back!! The webcam is co-sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce and the Quileute Nation. The cam is located in the administration building of the Quileute Tribal School in LaPush, approximately 15 miles west of Forks. It looks out (during daylight hours only) over First Beach in LaPush, which is accessible to all visitors. Keep an eye out for surfers when the big waves happen!
